What makes a city walkable?

A useful walking destination keeps enough sights, food and street life close together for a satisfying day in one area. Compact old towns, dense grids and waterfront promenades reward a slower pace, while hills and long cross-city gaps may require transit. Heat matters too: in hot climates, choose a smaller cluster, start early and keep an indoor or shaded fallback.

How to use this city list

Every city links to the free planner. Pick the city, trip length and pace, and CityWalk Plan orders real catalog places into area-focused days. The map preview connects stops directly; use the walking-directions button for an up-to-date street route. Many destinations also include a ready-made sample and a longer guide.

Start with the neighborhood you most want to explore, then treat the itinerary as an editable draft. Remove detours, add personal priorities and check live access, weather and opening details before setting out.
